Benefits of Bitter Pomegranate

The benefits of the mighty pomegranate, which is a fruit of the cucurbit family and grows naturally in tropical countries, do not end with counting. The plant, which has been used for therapeutic purposes for years, is also used in the kitchens of tropical countries. The green cucumber-like fruit turns orange as it matures. It has a bitter taste.

It is also seen that potency pomegranate, which is grown in our country, is used quite a lot in stomach and intestinal disorders. Its use is also increasing with its strong antioxidant properties, polyphenols such as lycopene and lutein, vitamin C and E content and high protein level. In the treatment of diabetes 2, in the control of blood sugar, in order to support the normal functioning of the immune system, in removing free radicals that cause cancer formation from the body with its antioxidant content, in Ayurvedic treatment, in digestive tract problems such as gastritis ulcer reflux, in supporting liver health, in eliminating skin problems. uses are available. It is now possible to find the plant, which was planted in the spring and started to bear fruit in the summer, even in the market.

The most common use of bitter melon is to make a paste in olive oil. If you cut the remaining fruit into small pieces after removing the seeds and leave it in olive oil for 2-4 months, your paste is ready. The important thing here is to use the right olive oil. The biggest problem with the products on the market is that they are made with oils that are not suitable for direct consumption according to the Turkish Food Codex. According to the Turkish Food Codex Communique on Olive Oil and Olive Pomace Oil, it is not appropriate to consume olive oils above 2 acids directly.

As Tlos Olive, while producing olive oils with high polyphenols, which is our main business, we decided to make the potency pomegranate healthier with the right olive oil in line with the demands of our customers. It is also useful to open a parenthesis to polyphenols here.

What is bitter melon good for, how should it be consumed

"If it wasn't for us, we would have to invent olive oil"

As the famous Italian professor Publio Viola said, if this miraculous liquid were not in our lives, we would certainly do our best to find it. This miraculous plant, whose chromosome number is 46 like that of humans, dates back to BC. It has been in our lives for 6000 years. It has always been used for health purposes throughout history... Hippocrates used it to treat ulcers, cholera and muscle pains, and Ibn Sina mixed it with figs and healed his patients. Overshadowed by the margarine rush that started in the 1950s, this precious liquid, for which folk songs such as "I can't eat olive oil" against itself, were composed, has recently come to the place it deserves, thanks to conscious producers. As the awareness of healthy food spreads in our society, its value will be understood even more.

Polyphenols are found in many plants. It is part of antioxidants, a large group of compounds that prevent cellular wear in the body. Antioxidants, in the most superficial terms, are those that allow the free radicals formed in our body to be removed from the body. Free radicals are substances that cause oxidation, as in the apple example. There are around 8000 identified polyphenols, most of which are of plant origin. There are also very valuable polyphenols in our olive oil, such as lycopene in tomato, carvacrol in thyme, curcumin in turmeric. Although there are so many polyphenols, it is very important that they can be absorbed by our body. While more than 90% of olive oil can be absorbed by our body, it has been determined that the polyphenols in it can be absorbed between 40-55% in trials conducted on human groups. This is a very high rate. The most important feature that makes olive oil valuable in terms of health is this absorption rate. For example, while the lycopene in tomatoes can be absorbed very little by our body when eaten directly, it can be absorbed more when it is eaten by pouring oil on it or eaten by heating. In summary, it is not the fact that there are many polyphenols in a plant, but how much of these polyphenols can be taken up by our body. In this respect, olive oil has a very high value.

Potency pomegranate fruit kept in the right olive oil dissolves quite successfully. Lycopene in tomatoes is also found in pomegranate. When it is consumed directly, the body cannot benefit as much as it should because it is thrown out of the body without breaking the cell membrane. However, olive oil or heat weakens the cell membrane of lycopene and makes it more available to the body. And when polyphenols from olive oil are added to it, a very useful product emerges as a result.

As Tlos Olive, we not only make the ones that come from the potency pomegranate better absorbed by the body, but also add the benefit of olive oil to our product thanks to the high polyphenol olive oil we use in our products. The demand for olive oil, which we have been producing for 3 years, has increased considerably due to the positive experiences of the users and the increasing health awareness due to the current pandemic situation. We produced around 600kg of potency pomegranate for this year. When we said that you can mix it with honey because it is difficult to eat, we mixed it with honey in the product we have just released – Kudret Pomegranate with Honey.
