Olive Oil and AIDS
Olive oil fights against the HIV microbe, which is the cause of AIDS. Professor of Organic Chemistry from the University of Granada, Madrid Carlos III Hospital. A group of researchers headed by Andrés García-Granados, in his study; revealed that maslinic acid (a substance in the wax layer that surrounds the olive sheath) inhibits the serine-protease enzyme they use to get out of the cell infected by the HIV microbe, into the extracellular environment (stopping the enzyme from working).As a result, it prevents the spread of the infection throughout the body. Scientists in Granada have shown that the use of olive-crusted oil reduces the spread of HIV, the AIDS microbe, by 80%.
