Olive Oil Elixir of Life
In the Mediterranean, olive oil has been considered a health elixir for 4000 years. Until 30 years ago, olive oil was sold on the same shelf with fig syrup in many pharmacies. It took 1889 to start real scientific studies on olive oil. Although its medicinal properties were not recognized by the scientific world of the time, the use of olive oil in medicine in France was officially recognized in 1748. The benefits of olives and olive oil were eclipsed for 40 years when margarine oils began to develop and be consumed in the 1950s, thanks to the advertisements of large companies.
